As part of ongoing efforts in the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project, a key section of Front Street in New Westminster will be closed nightly to allow for the installation of bridge deck panels. The nighttime shutdown, stretching from Begbie Street to East Columbia Street, will occur Monday through Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning April 21 and continuing through May 30, 2025.

This full closure will impact all vehicle traffic. Trucks will be redirected along 10th Avenue, while other traffic will be detoured to Columbia Street. The work is part of a larger infrastructure upgrade managed by project lead Garey Carlson, with construction being carried out by FCP. The night-only closures are designed to minimize daytime disruption in this busy downtown corridor.

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and watch for detour signs during these hours.

Westminster Secondary School, following a 9-1-1 report of threats made between individuals on school grounds. The call came in around 9:00 a.m., prompting a swift police response to ensure safety and begin a preliminary investigation.

Upon arrival, police worked to identify and locate those involved, interview witnesses, and collect evidence. Authorities have indicated that the incident appears to be an isolated dispute between two individuals and not a broader threat to the school community. Officers remained on-site throughout the day to support the investigation and maintain a visible presence.

The police are collaborating closely with school administrators as they move forward with the case. Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact the police. Support services are also available for anyone affected by the event, including access to the departmentโ€™s Victim Assistance Unit.

If you have information related to this incident, you are asked to call 604-525-5411. If students or staff ever fear for their safety, they are asked to call 9-1-1. Anyone who witnessed this incident and feels they would benefit from the support of the Victim Assistance Unit can call 604-529-2525 or email [email protected]
