Get ready to make a difference at the Spring Queensborough Shoreline Cleanup, happening Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Along the scenic south arm of the Fraser River, volunteers will gather at Thompson’s Landing Park and work their way eastward, picking up litter and removing invasive blackberry plants to help restore the natural shoreline.

Hosted by the Queensborough Special Programs Committee, this hands-on event is open to all ages and is the perfect opportunity for families, friends, and neighbors to come together in support of the environment. All necessary supplies—including gloves, litter pickers, garbage bags, and clippers—will be provided.

The cleanup will take place rain or shine, and light snacks will be available to keep volunteers fueled throughout the morning. Whether you're passionate about environmental stewardship or simply looking to get involved in your community, this is a rewarding way to spend a spring Saturday.

Parrot lovers and plant enthusiasts alike are invited to a heartwarming and fun-filled Spring Market fundraiser happening on Sunday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1522 London Street, New Westminster. Hosted to raise awareness and support for parrot adoption, the event promises a delightful mix of shopping, storytelling, and inspiration.

Companion birds like parrots often face uncertain futures—on average, they experience seven different homes over their lifetimes. This event shines a light on their need for stability and loving human companionship, making it an ideal opportunity to learn more about adoption and meet others who care deeply for these intelligent and affectionate creatures.

The market will feature a vibrant selection of perennials, houseplants, and edible plants, perfect for greening up any space. Guests can also indulge in homemade baked goods and browse unique, one-of-a-kind treasures for sale.

Adding a literary twist to the festivities, author Linda Mah will be on-site for a book signing of her whimsical children’s book, Uh-Oh: Trouble at School, starring the cheeky and charming “Grumpy the Bird.” Inspired by her real-life pet Goffin’s cockatoo, Grumpy, the story follows a parrot’s chaotic and hilarious first days in a human classroom. Through laugh-out-loud moments and thoughtful lessons, the tale celebrates individuality and belonging.

With a message of compassion at its core, this Spring Market fundraiser offers a chance to shop, support bird rescue, and enjoy a family-friendly day out—all while discovering how giving a parrot a forever home can truly change a life.
