ποΈ Residentsβ Associations in New Westminster: Get Involved in Local Issues
New Westminster is home to 12 Residentsβ Associations, and non-political community groups dedicated to addressing neighborhood concerns and fostering local engagement. These associations meet regularly in venues like schools and churches to discuss issues such as traffic, zoning, parks, recreation, and social initiatives.
The primary aims of these associations include:
Representing the interests of their members.
Ensuring regular consultation with residents and encouraging community participation.
Promoting social, educational, and community-driven activities that benefit the neighborhood.
Residentsβ Associations serve as a vital link between the community and the city, working collaboratively to improve the quality of life for residents. Meetings are open to all neighborhood residents, providing a space for dialogue and collective action.
Additionally, these associations can apply for an annual sponsorship of $400 to support their initiatives by completing the necessary application form.
Are you looking to get involved or find out which association represents your area?

New Westminster Mayor Patrick Johnstone recently traveled to Victoria to advocate for increased provincial support for the cityβs key priorities, including housing, healthcare, infrastructure, and public safety. His visit, which coincided with budget week, included meetings with several provincial ministers, as well as local MLAs, to push for collaboration on pressing municipal issues.
During his two-and-a-half-day visit, Johnstone engaged with Health Minister Josie Osborne, Public Safety Minister Garry Begg, Education and Child Care Minister Lisa Beare, Housing and Municipal Affairs Minister Ravi Kahlon, and Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport Minister Spencer Chandra Herbert. He also met with local MLAs Jennifer Whiteside, Raj Chouhan, and Steve Kooner to discuss how the province and municipality can work together on shared goals.
Johnstone emphasized that while some initiatives, such as the proposed health contact and resource center, require financial investment, others simply need better coordination between government levels. He highlighted the importance of building local resilience amid global economic uncertainty, urging the province to actively support municipalities in fostering sustainable growth and services.
The mayor plans to follow up with additional provincial leaders in the coming weeks to continue pushing for solutions to New Westminsterβs most urgent needs.
