Think beyond the blue bin! Not everything belongs in your regular curbside recycling—but that doesn’t mean it has to go to waste. Residents are invited to take part in an upcoming Recycle Pop-Up Event, where select depot-only items can be responsibly dropped off in one convenient location.

Organized by the city’s Solid Waste and Recycling Team, the event offers an opportunity to clear out clutter while helping reduce landfill waste and prevent contamination in household recycling. Team members will be on hand to answer questions, share tips, and guide residents on how to “recycle right.”

Accepted materials include:

  • Soft and hardcover books

  • Flexible plastic packaging

  • Styrofoam (clean and sorted)

  • Textiles and clothing

  • Small household appliances (like toasters and coffee makers)

  • Small scrap metal items (such as pots, pans, and tools)

To keep things running smoothly, the event will not accept large appliances, large electronics, oversized scrap metal, glass, garbage, or recyclables not specifically listed above. Residents looking to dispose of these items are encouraged to use the Recycle Coach app to find the proper drop-off locations and disposal information.

Whether you’re a long-time recycler or just getting started, this is a great chance to lighten your load, learn more about proper recycling practices, and positively impact your community and the environment...

Art lovers in New Westminster are in for a creative treat on Saturday, April 26, with a hands-on Dot Mandala Workshop set to take place at 65 E Sixth Avenue. Designed for both beginners and those simply seeking a mindful artistic escape, this in-person event offers a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere to explore the intricate beauty of mandala design.

Participants will have the opportunity to craft a unique dot mandala artwork on a 4-inch rock, learning various dotting techniques that can be used to create more beautiful pieces at home. All materials will be provided, along with light refreshments, making it a stress-free and inspiring experience. Whether attending solo or with friends, this workshop is a chance to relax, connect, and unlock creative expression.

Space is limited, and a group discount is available—perfect for friends looking to spend a meaningful afternoon together. No previous experience is needed—just bring your creativity and a willingness to try something new..
