 ⚡️ Morning Power Failure Disrupts Several New West Neighborhoods

A widespread power outage affected multiple neighborhoods in New Westminster on the morning of February 25. The City of New Westminster acknowledged the issue on social media at 10:44 a.m., confirming that crews were investigating the situation.

Residents and businesses across various areas, including Uptown, Queen’s Park, Sapperton, Glenbrook North, and parts of Downtown, reported losing electricity. Some Quayside residents noted that their lights flickered but did not experience a full outage.

By approximately 11:30 a.m., reports surfaced that power had been restored in some areas. City officials later confirmed that electricity had been fully restored to all customers. The disruption was traced to an issue with one of the transmission lines supplying the city's substation.

New Westminster has experienced similar outages in the past. In March 2023, a power failure affected two-thirds of the city for over an hour due to maintenance work at the substation near Ovens and Colborne streets.

 🔥 Police Make Swift Arrest in New Westminster Tennis Club Fire

The New Westminster Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a suspicious fire that caused significant damage to the New Westminster Tennis Club. The fire broke out on February 20 at approximately 10:15 p.m., prompting an investigation by the Major Crime Unit, which was supported by the Forensic Identification Unit.

Investigators gathered evidence and spoke with witnesses, allowing them to identify a suspect within 24 hours. On February 22, officers arrested the individual without incident after receiving a report of a suspicious person loitering near an underground parking garage.

Authorities credit the arrest to a tip from the public, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in police investigations. The case remains under investigation as officials work to determine further details.
