The City of New Westminster’s Parks and Recreation department is launching a new photo campaign to celebrate the diversity and energy of its community programs. They're inviting residents of all backgrounds and abilities to step into the spotlight and help illustrate what recreation looks like across the city.

The call is open to children aged 6 to 12 and adults 18 and older. Adult participants should be physically capable of engaging in active pursuits such as sports, aerobics, and yoga poses. For children, comfort in group play settings and the ability to follow instructions are key. Activities for young participants may include gymnasium sports, arts and crafts, and outdoor recreation. Families are encouraged to note if their child owns equipment for lacrosse, ball hockey, or a bicycle with a helmet.

Those interested in taking part are encouraged to fill out an online form to express their interest in participating in this inclusive and community-focused campaign.

Residents of New Westminster are reminded to pay their 2025 flat-rate utility fees by May 5, 2025 to be eligible for the discounted rate. These fees include charges for water, sewer, and solid waste services.

Annual flat-rate utility statements were mailed out in February, giving households a breakdown of the year’s service charges. However, receiving a bill is not required to make a payment—residents should ensure the full amount is paid on or before the May 5 deadline to receive the discount. Payments made after this date will not qualify for the reduced rate.

The City encourages residents to explore convenient payment options such as paperless billing, pre-authorized payments, and other methods outlined on the City of New Westminster website.

In addition to the early payment discount, eligible seniors may apply for a Senior Waiver. This program offers a 25% discount on the annual utility charges for homeowners who are 65 years or older, live alone, and reside in a single-family home. Approved discounts are applied directly to the current year’s utility account.
