After more than 40 years of serving their communities, Burnaby Now, New Westminster Record, and the Tri-City News will soon cease operations. Parent company Glacier Media announced the closures, citing ongoing financial challenges that have made it unsustainable to continue publishing.

The decision was made after extensive efforts to explore alternative solutions, but ultimately, the economic realities of the media industry led to the difficult conclusion.

The publications have been a key part of their communities, covering everything from local government debates to school fundraisers and neighborhood achievements. The loss will be deeply felt by both readers and staff, many of whom have dedicated years to delivering quality journalism.

Publisher Lara Graham expressed gratitude to employees, advertisers, and loyal readers, acknowledging their support over the decades. She described the closure as a β€œvery sad day for our employees, readers, and local journalism.”

Glacier Media will work with staff during the transition. Burnaby Now and New Westminster Record will close no later than April 21, while the Tri-City News will continue until May 21.

For further inquiries, readers and advertisers can contact publisher Lara Graham at [email protected].

Film enthusiasts and classic musical fans will have a chance to dive into the legacy of Gene Kelly at a special event on April 17, 2025, at 7:00 PM, hosted by Eighth & Eight Creative Spaces.

Spanning 150 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission, this engaging presentation by classic film scholar Michael Van Den Bos will explore Kelly’s contributions to Hollywood musicals. Known for his boundless creativity, Kelly danced with his own reflection, a cartoon mouse, and even glided across the screen on roller skates. His work combined athleticism and artistry, making him one of the most influential figures in film history.

Attendees will experience a journey through Kelly’s career, featuring highlights from his most iconic performances, including his unforgettable roles in Singin’ in the Rain, An American in Paris, and many more. The event promises a vibrant look at his skills as a dancer, actor, singer, choreographer, and director, celebrating his lasting impact on cinema.

For those who admire classic Hollywood or want to rediscover the magic of Gene Kelly, this event offers a must-see retrospective filled with dazzling performances and expert insight.
