The City of New Westminster has partnered with a specialized waste removal company to safely dispose of needles and other biohazardous waste found in public spaces. If you come across a discarded needle, here’s what you need to know:

City staff will arrange for collection as soon as possible during business hours.

Biohazardous Waste Removal in the Downtown Neighbourhood

As part of the Crisis Response Pilot Project and the Downtown Livability Strategy, businesses in Downtown New Westminster may be eligible for a specialized clean-up service.

Who Can Participate?

The waiver program is currently available only to businesses in the Downtown neighbourhood. If you’re unsure whether your business qualifies, contact [email protected] for assistance.

How to Sign Up

Eligible businesses must complete a waiver form, which requires signatures from both the business owner and property owner (with a witness). Submit the completed waiver to [email protected].

⚠️ Important: You will not be added to the clean-up route until you receive confirmation.

Requesting Clean-Up

Once your waiver is approved, report biohazardous waste on your property by:

Reporting Biohazardous Waste in Other Areas

In the Downtown Neighbourhood: Call 604-526-4691 or email [email protected] for assistance.
Outside the Downtown Area (Public Property): Contact Engineering Operations via phone or email for removal.
On Private Property: The City may not be able to respond due to liability issues but will attempt to connect with the property owner. Reports can also be submitted via SeeClickFix.
