On November 23, 2024, New Westminster will host a special recycling pop-up event at the Engineering Works Yard, located at 901 First Street, to help residents dispose of certain items not accepted in regular recycling bins. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members can drop off a range of depot-only recyclables and receive guidance from the city's Solid Waste and Recycling Team, who will be available to answer questions and provide recycling tips to reduce contamination.
Accepted Items for Drop-Off Include:
Soft and hardcover books
Soft, flexible plastics
Styrofoam
Textiles and clothing
Small household appliances (such as toasters and coffee makers)
Small scrap metals (like pots, pans, and broken tools)
Items that are not accepted at this event include large appliances, large scrap metals, large electronics, glass, garbage, and any other non-listed recyclables. Residents are encouraged to use the Recycle Coach app to find alternative locations for recycling or disposing of these items.
Residents can visit New West's recycling page for more information on recycling guidelines and ways to reduce contamination.
