Are you a photography enthusiast with a talent for capturing the beauty of the night sky? The City of New Westminster is looking for the perfect moonlit photo to feature on the official poster for its upcoming Moonlight Movies series—and your work could be the star of the show!

About Moonlight Movies

This beloved outdoor film series invites residents to enjoy classic films under the night sky, with screenings happening once a month from June to September 2025. In October, the event takes a spooky twist, moving indoors for a special Halloween collaboration with the Queensborough Special Projects Committee. Each screening is hosted at a different location, making every event a unique experience for movie lovers of all ages.

The Photo Contest

The City’s Community Partnerships division, which oversees events, grants, volunteer resources, and the film office, is running a contest to find the perfect Moonlight Movies backdrop. The winning photo will be used in a vertical 11x17 print poster and adapted for digital screens, social media, and even a digital billboard.

What Kind of Photo Are They Looking For?

📷 A striking image of the moon—any phase is acceptable, including ones partially veiled by clouds, as long as it is visible from or over New Westminster.
🌲 A connection to nature or the city—trees, cityscapes, or other elements that help situate the moon within New Westminster’s landscape are a plus.
📏 A portrait-oriented composition—or a photo that can be easily cropped to fit.
🎬 Plenty of negative space—allowing room for key event details like the date, time, location, and City logo.

How to Enter

Submit a lower-resolution version (max 4MB) of your photo for the contest.
If selected, the final high-resolution image must be 300 dpi and at least 3300 x 5100 pixels.
No AI-generated images—only original photography will be considered.
The contest is open until April 18, 2025, and the winner will be chosen by a City of New Westminster staff jury.

The Prize

The winning photographer will receive $100 and have their work prominently featured on Moonlight Movies promotional materials. Credit will be given to both the New West Photography Club and the photographer, and a watermarked version with a © credit can be supplied for future use if requested.
