Cap's Bike Shop in Sapperton, is inviting new and aspiring cyclists to join their welcoming community through the Cap's Ride Club. On April 9th at 6:30 PM, the shop will host an open house, providing an opportunity to meet the club's ride leaders, enjoy pizza and drinks, and learn more about the group rides scheduled for the upcoming cycling season.
The club is tailored for cyclists who are new to group riding, offering a friendly and inclusive environment. Rides typically cover local roads and scenic bike paths, often incorporating café stops along the way. Participants can expect a blend of socializing and fitness while building their cycling confidence.
Starting on April 27th, the club’s regular rides will kick off. Weekly Thursday evening rides cover approximately 30 kilometers, while Sunday rides range from 50 kilometers in the spring to 70 kilometers in the fall. The group meets at Cap's Bike Shop, with Thursday rides beginning at 5:45 PM and Sunday rides at 9:00 AM.
Participants need to register for the season, with a $60 club fee and an active Cycling BC membership. Riders can sign up via the club’s Strava or Facebook pages, and a WhatsApp group is also available for questions and updates.
The club emphasizes safety and comfort, canceling rides in extreme weather conditions, including temperatures over 30°C, poor air quality, or rain. Riders are encouraged to ensure their bikes are well-maintained, bring water, and carry suitable nutrition for longer rides.
Cap's Bike Shop invites the community to join this exciting cycling season, meet new friends, and enjoy the many scenic routes the area has to offer. More information about registration and ride details is available on the shop's website.

New Westminster will soon be home to the region’s first Costco Business Centre, which will cater to business customers with bulk and specialized products. Unlike traditional Costco warehouses, which serve the general public, this location will offer a more tailored shopping experience for local businesses.
City records obtained through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request filed by Daily Hive Urbanized request reveal that a development permit was issued on February 7, 2025, for the store’s opening at 1085 Tanaka Court in the Queensborough district. The future Business Centre will occupy a 13-acre property east of Value Village and Starlight Casino, near the Queensborough Landing Outlet Mall.
The site previously housed a Lowe’s store, which opened in 2012 and operated until its closure in 2023. In June 2024, local developer Beedie purchased the property for $74 million. Instead of constructing a new building, Costco plans to repurpose the existing 142,400-square-foot warehouse with minor exterior adjustments. Notably, the Garden Centre’s roofing will be removed, and the parking lot will be reconfigured. Parking stall sizes will increase from 9 feet to 10 feet in width, reducing the total number of stalls from 587 to 522.
While no official opening date has been announced, the use of an existing structure suggests the store could open more quickly than a new build. Architectural firm MG2, known for its long-standing partnership with Costco, designed the project. The Seattle-based firm has completed over 780 Costco locations in its 30-year history, often meeting the retailer’s strict timeline of finishing construction within 110 days.
Costco and Beedie have yet to comment on the upcoming Business Centre.
