Looking for a fun night out that’s full of music, mischief, and major ’70s style? Royal City Musical Theatre is bringing the beloved 9 to 5 The Musical to Massey Theatre this spring — and it’s shaping up to be one of New Westminster’s must-see events of the season!

Running from April 25 to May 11, 2025, this high-energy production features all the sass, sparkle, and female empowerment you’d expect from a show inspired by Dolly Parton herself. Based on the classic 1980 film, the story follows three women stuck in a soul-sucking office job who decide to shake things up—and shake off the patriarchy while they’re at it.

Expect toe-tapping tunes, outrageous fashion, and a healthy dose of laugh-out-loud comedy. With direction by Valerie Easton and Chris Adams, choreography by Easton, and musical direction by Diane Spiers, this show is a polished, professional production that’s proud to call New West home.

 Preview performances:

  • Friday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m.

🌟 Official Opening Night:

  • Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m.

🎟️ Ticket Info:
Starting at $29 (Zone A), $39 (Zone B), and $49 (Zone C), with prices rising as demand increases—so book early to snag the best seats! Each performance runs about 2.5 hours, including intermission.

Whether you’re a Dolly Parton superfan or just looking for a lively night out in the heart of the city, 9 to 5 The Musical is a hilarious, heartwarming reminder that sometimes, the best way to get ahead… is to take charge.

👉 Don’t sleep on this one, New West! Grab your tickets and let this dazzling production lift your spirits this spring.

🍔 Burger Poll Update

With the federal election just around the corner, one local restaurant is serving up political opinion with a side of fries. Burger Heaven, a longstanding New Westminster fixture, has brought back its popular election-themed burger poll, allowing patrons to cast their vote through their meal choices.

Currently, the “Mark Carney Burger,” representing the Liberal Party, holds a clear lead with 45% of all burger “ballots” cast. Trailing behind are the “Pierre Poilievre Burger” for the Conservatives at 21% and the “Jagmeet Singh Burger” for the NDP with 14.5%. The Green Party offering, a burger inspired by Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedneault, holds five percent, while the Bloc Québécois burger, representing Yves-François Blanchet, has secured four percent. A portion of diners — 10.5% — remain “bun-decided.”

This playful poll mirrors some of the numbers reported in national surveys. According to an April 14 release from the Angus Reid Institute, 45% of respondents expressed support for the Liberals. However, the national data showed stronger Conservative support at 39%, while the NDP and Bloc each garnered around seven percent.

Locally, voters in the New Westminster–Burnaby–Maillardville riding will have a slate of five candidates to choose from when they cast official ballots on April 28.

Though delicious, the burger poll may not predict the final outcome. But at Burger Heaven, democracy has never tasted better.
