Bethel #22 is hosting a Sundae Buffet Fundraiser on Family Day, Monday, February 17, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at 508 Agnes Street, New Westminster, BC.

This fun-filled community event invites guests to enjoy an 8oz ice cream sundae with a variety of toppings for just $5 per person. Attendees can bring family and friends or meet new people while enjoying sweet treats and games.

To help with planning, organizers request that guests RSVP in advance. Payment will be collected at the door.

New Westminster has officially named Janet Kvammen as its new poet laureate, recognizing her contributions to the local arts community. Her three-year term will run until December 31, 2027, with her appointment announced by Mayor Patrick Johnstone during the January 27 city council meeting.

A well-known poet and visual artist, Kvammen has played a key role in promoting arts and literature in the city. She serves as vice president of the New West Artists and is also president and a founding board member of the Royal City Literary Arts Society.

As poet laureate, Kvammen will act as a literary ambassador for the city, presenting readings at civic events, fostering appreciation for poetry and literature, and creating engagement opportunities to bring literary arts into everyday life.

Kvammen is the sixth poet laureate in New Westminster’s history, following in the footsteps of past honorees including Edna Anderson (1998), Don Benson (1999–2007), Candice James (2010–2016), Alan Hill (2017–2020), and Elliott Slinn (2021–2024). Anderson, Benson, and James have also been named poet laureate emeritus.

In 2023, Kvammen was awarded the Bernie Legge Artist of the Year by the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce, further cementing her impact on the local arts scene. She expressed gratitude for the appointment, calling it both an honor and a surprise and acknowledging the legacy of the poet laureates before her.
