If you’ve ever dreamed of flying through the air on a trapeze, mastering gravity-defying flips, or building core strength uniquely and excitingly, the Vancouver Circus School is the place to be. Nestled in the heart of New Westminster, this dynamic training ground offers an alternative to traditional sports, where students of all ages can build confidence, agility, and strength through circus arts.

Founded by Travis Johnson and his parents, Aaron and Val Johnson, the school was built on the vision of making circus training accessible, non-competitive, and rooted in physical literacy. Travis, the Canadian Trampoline Coach in 2021, Coach Developer, and physical literacy instructor, has dedicated his career to helping students push their limits in a supportive, community-driven environment. From complete beginners to aspiring professionals, the Vancouver Circus School welcomes everyone looking to experience the thrill of movement.

The Vancouver Circus School isn’t just about acrobatics—it’s about building confidence, discipline, and a deep connection to physical literacy. Their most popular classes, like Aerial Silks, provide students with the skills to pursue high-level performance opportunities. Some even go on to work with world-renowned productions like Cirque du Soleil. For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, the school also offers classes in juggling, trampoline, and parkour-style movement training.

But their impact goes beyond the gym walls. Through the Social Circus Foundation, Travis and his team provide training opportunities to at-risk and marginalized youth, making circus arts a vehicle for personal growth and empowerment. Travis also serves as President of Tourism New Westminster, working to promote the city's rich cultural scene and vibrant community events.

The Vancouver Circus School is an integral part of New Westminster’s event scene, bringing jaw-dropping performances to local favorites like Fridays on Front, Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest, and Canada Day celebrations. Their shows captivate audiences, inspiring children and adults alike to step outside their comfort zones and embrace the joy of movement.

What’s Coming Up in 2025?

This year is set to be another exciting one for the Vancouver Circus School! Spring Break Camps are just around the corner, offering kids an unforgettable opportunity to explore circus arts in a fun and engaging setting. Additionally, the school is undergoing renovations and launching brand-new classes in April, catering to both children and adults. Whether you’re looking for an exhilarating new fitness challenge or dreaming of a future in performance, there’s something for everyone.

New parents with infants up to nine months old are invited to a welcoming and supportive gathering on February 10 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Quayside. This free, drop-in program provides a space to meet other parents, enjoy snacks and coffee, and discuss topics such as baby routines, sleep, breastfeeding, development, and adjusting to family life.

Each session features a guest speaker, and this week's special guest is Bryony Ollier from Singing Mamas. She will lead an interactive session focused on connection through voice, offering parents an opportunity to relax and bond with their babies and each other through song.

Singing Mamas is a grassroots movement made up of mothers, healthcare professionals, and community workers dedicated to improving mental well-being through singing. Research shows that singing can reduce symptoms of postnatal depression more effectively than traditional treatments, making this session both an enjoyable and beneficial experience for new parents.

The event takes place in a safe and welcoming environment, providing a chance for parents to build community while accessing valuable resources. No registration is required—just drop in and join the conversation.
