Food lovers and history buffs alike can look forward to a flavorful adventure in New Westminster on Sunday, March 9, as the 12th Street Food Crawl invites guests to explore the area's growing culinary scene.

Participants will enjoy five delicious food stops, sampling treats from Shiok Canteen, Gospaโ€™s Delightful Food, Vadapav Mirchi by Geeta, and Rainbow Play Cafe, with the event kicking off at Wildfire Books. Along the way, guests will have the chance to meet business owners and learn more about the inspiration behind their menus.

Beyond food, the tour will also highlight the hidden histories, culture, and art of historic 12th Street, led by heritage and environmental educator Jay (they/them). As part of the Adventures on Twelfth project in 2021, Jay and their colleague Daphne documented the areaโ€™s rich past, and they are excited to share their insights during the walk.

The event is hosted by a lineup of notable community figures, including Johanna Bartels (2024 Community Arts Builder Award recipient), Rohan Singh (The Kitchen Singh food blogger), and New Westminster City Councillor Ruby Campbell.

The food crawl will proceed rain or shine, with both indoor and outdoor experiences. Vegetarian options are available for those who note their dietary needs upon registration.

๐Ÿ“… Date & Time: Sunday, March 9 | 1:30 - 4:00 PM PDT
๐Ÿ“ Starting Point: Wildfire Books, 712 B 12th Street, New Westminster, BC

A new petition is urging authorities to take urgent action to improve safety on the Pattullo Bridge, citing an increase in fatal accidents in recent months. Started by Andrew Webb, the petition calls for reducing traffic to a single lane and installing concrete barriers down the center of the bridge until the new replacement bridge is operational.

Webb emphasizes that the lack of proper lane separation has led to numerous deadly head-on collisions. Research shows that highway lane reductions and concrete barriers significantly lower the risk of such accidents. Given this data, the petition argues that immediate changes are necessary to prevent further loss of life.

Supporters believe that temporary safety measures should be implemented as soon as possible while awaiting the completion of the new bridge. The petition encourages the public to sign and demand action from decision-makers before more lives are lost.

Little Johnny: โ€œWhy is it raining? Is the sky sad?โ€

Johnnyโ€™s father replies: โ€œYes, son, the sky is pretty blue.
