The New Westminster Secondary School (NWSS) Dry Grad Committee is inviting the community to a delicious fundraising event on Sunday, January 19th, at Cockney Kings Fish & Chips in New Westminster. The popular local eatery will donate a portion of the proceeds from every meal purchased that day to support the Grade 12 Dry Grad celebration.

Whether you prefer to dine in or take out, it’s easy to participate. Visit Cockney Kings’ New Westminster location at #130-66 10th Street, mention that you're supporting "NWSS Dry Grad," and enjoy a meal of their famous fish and chips. A portion of what you spend will directly contribute to funding the Dry Grad event, a safe and supervised celebration for graduating students.

The NWSS Dry Grad aims to provide Grade 12 students with a memorable, drug- and alcohol-free evening with fun activities. The committee thanks Cockney Kings for their generous support and encourages the community to come out and enjoy a meal while making a difference.

Gather your family and friends and head to Cockney Kings this Sunday to support this meaningful cause!

This Valentine’s season, the Vagabond Players are bringing a heartwarming and hilarious production to New Westminster’s Bernie Legge Theatre in Queen’s Park. A Nice Indian Boy, written by Madhuri Shekar and directed by CK Kaur, will run from February 13 to March 2, 2025. The show, a delightful blend of comedy and cultural exploration, offers a fresh take on love, family, and tradition.

The story follows Naveen Gavaskar, a young Indian man who dreams of a traditional Hindu marriage—with a twist. He’s found his perfect match in Keshav, another "nice Indian boy." As Naveen’s parents grapple with this unexpected turn, his older sister returns home with her own surprising revelation, sparking a series of heartfelt and hilarious family dynamics. This poignant comedy delves into the joys and chaos of modern relationships, cultural blending, and timeless family expectations, promising an unforgettable theatrical experience.

Performances will take place Thursdays to Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m., with preview shows on February 13 and 14. Tickets are available online at vagabondplayers.ca/tickets or by leaving a message at 604-521-0412 for a callback from a volunteer.

The show features a talented cast: Sid Sharma as Naveen, Braedan Saucy as Keshav, Yasmin Luisa Tayob as Megha, Ray Sihota as Archit, and Rajashree Iyengar as Arundhathi. Under the guidance of producer Dwayne Campbell and assistant producer Heather Robertson, the production promises to shine a light on themes of love, cultural identity, and the complexities of family life.

As a bonus, this celebrated script has been adapted into a film slated for release this spring, but local theatre lovers are encouraged to experience the story in its original form onstage.

Get your tickets soon and prepare for an evening filled with laughter, heartwarming moments, and insightful reflections on family and culture.
