New West Soccer Club is making strides to become a leader in the soccer community by embracing a mission to foster growth and success for all its members, regardless of age, gender, socio-economic status, or experience level. The clubโ€™s vision is rooted in the principles of inclusivity, fairness, and development, aiming to provide an environment where every participantโ€”be it a player, coach, parent, official, or volunteerโ€”can reach their full potential.

The club's winter program, which still has limited spots available for Friday sessions, exemplifies its commitment to creating opportunities for everyone to play, grow, and succeed. The clubโ€™s cornerstone values include transparency, safety, hard work, and fun, all while nurturing a love for soccer and building strong relationships within the community.

By promoting fairness, encouraging potential, and prioritizing enjoyment of the "beautiful game," the club aspires to be a model of success in the soccer world, both locally and beyond. Whether youโ€™re just starting out or a seasoned player, this club offers a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

A section of downtown New Westminster was shut down for several hours on Tuesday following a threat made against the cityโ€™s courthouse. Police evacuated the courthouse, Douglas Collegeโ€™s New Westminster campus, and surrounding homes and businesses while they investigated the incident.

Authorities say they became aware of the threat around 10:30 a.m., prompting immediate action to secure the area. A perimeter was established from Royal Avenue to Carnarvon Street, between 8th Street and 6th Street. Heavily armed officers, police dogs, paramedics, and firefighters were on the scene, working to ensure public safety while conducting a thorough sweep of the area.

According to police, the nature of the threat has not been disclosed, but it was treated as credible until further investigation could confirm otherwise. No injuries were reported.

In a statement, Sgt. Andrew Leaver of the New Westminster Police Department reiterated the importance of the evacuation and asked for the publicโ€™s patience. "We treat every threat as real until we can determine otherwise," he said.

Campus and Businesses Reopen, Law Courts Remain Closed

By mid-afternoon, the situation had stabilized, allowing Douglas College to resume its regular schedule. At 3 p.m., the college announced that all classes, events, and activities would proceed as planned. The New Westminster campus and the Carnarvon Parkades were reopened to students, staff, and the public.

Despite this progress, officials confirmed, the New Westminster Law Courts, including the Supreme Court registry, will remain closed for the rest of the day.

Police have not yet provided details on the origin of the threat or if there is any ongoing risk. The investigation is expected to continue, with updates to follow as new information becomes available.

Residents and commuters are reminded to stay informed through official channels and avoid the area if closures or disruptions persist.
