 🏥 Support Your Community as a Volunteer at Royal Columbian Hospital

The volunteers at Royal Columbian Hospital play a vital role in enhancing the patient and family experience, working as an integral part of the healthcare team to support the efforts of medical professionals. Their contributions are invaluable in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all who visit the hospital.

Volunteers engage in a variety of meaningful roles, including acting as wayfinders to help patients and visitors navigate the hospital, serving as patient visitors to provide companionship and support, and participating as members of the hospital auxiliary. Volunteering offers an excellent opportunity to explore potential careers, develop new skills, connect with others, and make a positive impact in the community.

If you’re interested in joining this dedicated team, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Be at least 18 years old.

• Commit to a minimum of nine months (one three-hour shift per week on a consistent day) and complete 100 hours of service.

• Have proficiency in English and strong communication skills.

• Provide proof of seasonal flu vaccination (when applicable).

• Report their vaccination status for both COVID-19 and seasonal flu.

For those who meet these requirements, volunteering at Royal Columbian Hospital is a gratifying way to give back while being part of a compassionate healthcare environment.

 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Free Six-Week Parenting Program Helps Parents Navigate Challenges

Parenting is a journey filled with love, challenges, and learning. The Nobody's Perfect Parenting Program provides a supportive environment for parents of children aged 0-6 to connect, share experiences, and develop practical skills. Based on the belief that no one is born knowing how to parent, the program offers peer support and guidance through discussions tailored to the group's unique needs.

Held at New Westminster Family Place in the Training Room at 112-960 Quayside Drive, the program runs on Tuesdays from January 14 to February 18, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Participants must attend all six sessions to gain the full benefit of the program, which is free of charge, though it is valued at $430 per session. Parents are asked to treat the commitment as though they’ve paid, respecting the resources of the small non-profit offering the program.

Led by trained facilitators, Nobody's Perfect focuses on helping parents:

• Understand their child’s development, behavior, health, and safety.

• Develop positive parenting skills and strategies for coping with everyday stress.

• Meet and share real-life parenting experiences with other parents.

• Access community resources tailored to their family’s needs.

The program is a nationally run initiative of the Public Health Agency of Canada, delivered through organizations across the country. Registration is required, and all applicants will complete a short survey-based interview to ensure eligibility. If you’re looking for a way to grow as a parent while building connections with others, this program is a valuable resource.
