The annual 2025 Vancouver Global Game Jam is just around the corner, offering an exciting weekend of creativity, collaboration, and game development! This year’s event kicks off on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Douglas College New Westminster Campus, bringing together game enthusiasts of all experience levels for a thrilling 48-hour challenge. Whether you're an experienced developer or completely new to the world of game design, this event is an opportunity to unleash your creativity, develop new skills, and meet like-minded individuals.
The event is organized by the BC United Student Game Developers Association (BCUSGDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting aspiring game developers with game studios. BCUSGDA has a history of hosting successful events such as @BCGameJam and @GGJVancouver. As the organization continues to grow, it actively seeks new opportunities to support Vancouver’s vibrant game development community.
Participants can join a pre-formed team or create one on-site, and everyone will receive three provided dinners to fuel the weekend’s creative efforts. Each role in game development is welcome, from programmers exploring new engines to 2D and 3D artists honing their design skills. Sound designers, composers, writers, and project managers will also find plenty of opportunities to contribute and grow.
For those interested in supporting the event behind the scenes, volunteer positions are also available—simply visit ggjvancouver.ca for details.
Don’t miss this incredible chance to connect with Vancouver’s gaming community, create something amazing, and have a great time doing it. Mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable weekend!
In a time when open-minded discussions seem increasingly rare, the Century House General Discussion Group stands out as a refreshing space for meaningful dialogue. This unique group provides an opportunity for members to express their opinions, engage with alternative viewpoints, and learn from one another in a respectful and inclusive environment.
The group was initiated by Judith Bogod, who recognized a gap in Century House programming for open discussion forums. With the support of Dianne Moscript (co-facilitator) and Philip Bogod (treasurer), the group has grown into a vibrant community. Each week, they tackle a variety of topics, ranging from political issues like "Democracy: Canada vs the USA," to societal questions such as "Does Canada need a Minister of Loneliness?" Technological dilemmas like "Would you ride in a driverless car?" and even offbeat subjects like "Was the moon landing fake?" add to the diversity of the conversations.
Members are encouraged to suggest topics and an agenda is shared via email the day before each session. Discussions are structured, with participants raising their hands to speak and the facilitator ensuring everyone has a chance to contribute. Strict ground rules promote respect, banning belligerence, hatred, or intolerance, making the group a safe space for sharing ideas.
The group meets on Tuesdays from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, with 14 to 18 attendees regularly participating. Whether you're curious about exploring new perspectives or simply enjoy engaging in thoughtful conversations, the group welcomes new members. After all, as the facilitators emphasize, talking is the foundation of human connection.
