The initiative comes at a pivotal time following the recent election, with organizers emphasizing the importance of maintaining rent caps and other protections that could be at risk. They note that while New Westminster’s existing bylaws are robust compared to other cities, enforcement remains a challenge—the more comprehensive the survey data, the stronger the case for meaningful action.

In addition to the survey, a Provincial Platform meeting is being planned for early December at the Anvil Centre, offering tenants the chance to connect with legislators and city councilors. This gathering will outline broader goals for the upcoming year.

For those interested in ongoing involvement, a monthly tenant meeting is held on the last Thursday of each month at the Anvil Centre, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on the 4th floor. Organizers encourage participation, noting the urgent need for tenant advocacy, especially in the face of rising rental costs, which often exceed $3,000 per month for new leases.

Residents are encouraged to dedicate a few minutes to completing the survey and sharing it with neighbors to amplify the effort..
