 🕹️ Beloved New Westminster Arcade Seeks New Home After Zoning Hurdles

Industry Arcade, a cherished community destination in New Westminster, will shut its doors at the end of 2024. Despite strong support from city hall and the property owner, zoning restrictions have made it impossible for the arcade to continue operations. The space at 30 Capilano Way, zoned for heavy industrial use, requires an ancillary use zoning amendment to allow an arcade, a hurdle that remains unresolved.

Owners Kyle and Amanda Seller, who launched the arcade as an offshoot of their business East Van Amusements, described the news as a surprise with little time to prepare. Operating since 2020, Industry Arcade became a local favorite, offering a nostalgic and joyful escape with 45 rotating games, from pinball to skee-ball, and attracting visitors of all ages.

“This whole venture has been a wonderful experience,” the Sellers shared, reflecting on the happiness the arcade has brought to its patrons, particularly during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic. The venue also became a backdrop for memorable events, including marriage proposals and countless celebrations.

While Industry Arcade’s current location will close, the Sellers are exploring options for its future. They are considering relocating to a new venue or collaborating with another business to create a “2.0 version” of the arcade. In the meantime, additional drop-in days may be added to the schedule over the next few weeks to meet demand as the final days approach.

The community is encouraged to help spread the word to increase the likelihood of finding a new space for the arcade. Updates will be shared as the Sellers navigate this transition.

Although the closure is bittersweet, East Van Amusements, the parent company that rents arcade machines to other businesses, will continue operating from the same location.

As the arcade prepares to bid farewell, the Sellers expressed deep gratitude to their passionate staff and the loyal visitors who made the journey worthwhile.

• Catering: Captain’s Oven caters for events with a minimum order of $150, offering delivery before 4 p.m. for an added 10% service fee.
