๐Ÿ– Queens Meat and Deli Seeks Community Support to Reclaim Parking Access

Queens Meat and Deli Seeks Community Support

Queens Meat and Deli, a longstanding family-run business, is seeking community support to address a pressing issue impacting its operations. Recently, a Lime e-bike parking stand was installed directly outside the store, taking up valuable parking spots that were once available for the shop's customers. This unexpected change has made it difficult for many regular patrons, especially elderly and disabled individuals, to access the store with ease.

The family-owned deli has been a neighborhood staple for years, employing local residents and serving as a reliable source for high-quality meats and deli products. The owners have voiced their concern that the lack of convenient parking is already affecting their business, as customers increasingly express frustration over limited access, with some opting to shop elsewhere. The disruption has had a noticeable impact on daily foot traffic and revenues, causing anxiety for the storeโ€™s future.

Convenient parking is essential to the success of small, local businesses like Queens Meat and Deli, particularly for businesses that serve a significant number of older or mobility-impaired customers. The storeโ€™s owners are asking the City to relocate the Lime e-bike stand to a nearby spot that wonโ€™t interfere with customer access or business operations. They are hopeful that by gathering signatures for a petition, they can rally community support and encourage the City to act in the interest of preserving local business.

By supporting this petition, residents can help ensure Queens Meat and Deli continues to serve the neighborhood, fostering both community connection and economic growth.

sixty-five First Street

Merchant House Capital has introduced SixtyFiveFirst, a proposed two-tower community development at 65 First Street in New Westminster, aiming to replace the existing Kinnaird Place strata building. This ambitious project, located near the scenic Albert Crescent Park along the Fraser River, plans to add 299 market rental units, 30 below-market rental units, and 304 market condos. The 35- and 31-story towers are designed for mixed-tenure and mixed-income housing, enhancing accessibility within the Columbia Station Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area.

The project includes modern amenities like an upper-level bridge connecting the two towers, which will house strata and rental townhouses facing both street and park frontages. Despite provincial requirements that prevent mandatory resident parking in TOD areas, SixtyFiveFirst plans to offer 410 resident parking spots and 63 visitor spaces, as well as extensive bicycle storage facilities.

Community members are invited to share feedback on the proposal, with Merchant House Capital hosting two open houses. An in-person event will take place on November 12 at Douglas College, and a virtual open house will follow on November 13. In addition, residents can provide input via an online survey on the projectโ€™s website until November 22. The iterative review process allows for community feedback to shape the development, which will eventually undergo City Council review.
