Josh Thompson, the owner of Plan Bee Native Plants, will lead an upcoming session on incorporating native plants into local gardens. Native plants provide substantial ecological benefits, from supporting pollinators and local insect populations to fostering resilient growth that aligns with the regional climate. Thompson's talk will offer practical insights on how to integrate these plants into existing gardens or balconies, giving tips on plant selection based on sunlight, soil, and moisture. He'll also cover eco-friendly gardening strategies like using mulch and grouping plants with similar watering needs to create visually appealing, sustainable spaces.
The presentation will take place in person at the Main Branch, on November 21, 2024, with an option to attend via Zoom for registered participants. It wonβt be recorded, so those interested should join live.

π§₯ Police Warn of Coat Season Thefts in New West

Beware!
The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) is cautioning businesses and residents to be extra mindful of jackets left on coatracks near entryways. Thieves are increasingly targeting these areas for easy access to wallets, phones, and other valuables. With colder weather leading to more coats being worn and left unattended, police advise businesses to consider moving coatracks further from entrances and remind residents to keep valuables with them rather than leave them in coat pockets.
The NWPD also encourages businesses to train staff to stay alert for suspicious activity, and promptly report any incidents. For thefts in progress, staff are advised to call 9-1-1, and to report other thefts by contacting 604-525-5411.
