An upcoming tribute concert, We’ll Meet Again: A Tribute to the Beloved Songs & Entertainers of World War I & World War II, invites audiences to immerse themselves in the enduring melodies that bolstered spirits and fostered hope during the World Wars. This unique performance celebrates the era’s most beloved songs and performers, whose music resonated with troops and families alike, and continues to inspire and uplift audiences today.

The concert will feature works from iconic artists like Dame Vera Lynn, Benny Goodman, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, The Andrews Sisters, Woody Hermann, and more. Attendees can expect an unforgettable lineup of timeless hits, such as “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” “White Cliffs of Dover,” “Lilli Marlene,” “We’ll Meet Again,” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.”

The talented roster of performers includes Melanie Adams (mezzo-soprano), Caitlin Bradley Beaupré (soprano), Julie Begg (clarinet and saxophone), Dominique Bernath (percussion, ukulele, and vocals), Jim Hopson (trombone, tuba, and vocals), Karen Lee-Morlang (piano and vocals), and Jeremy Vint (trumpet and vocals). These artists will bring the music to life, blending instrumental talent and vocal harmony to evoke the emotions and memories tied to each song.

The concert will take place at St. Aidan's Presbyterian Church in New Westminster, located at 1320 7th Ave, offering an intimate and resonant setting for this nostalgic journey. The event encourages everyone to sing along, reliving the music that brought people together during challenging times.

🍂 New Westminster Calls for Year-Round Water Conservation as Lawn Restrictions End

Water Conservation - Wikipedia Commons

As colder months draw near, New Westminster residents are reminded to prepare their rain barrels for winter. To avoid damage from freezing temperatures, the city recommends draining, disconnecting, and storing barrels in a dry place until warmer weather returns. For those interested in adding a rain barrel, the city will reintroduce its popular purchase program next spring, making it easier for residents to collect and conserve rainwater.

While lawn-watering restrictions have lifted, the city urges residents to maintain water conservation efforts year-round. Mindful use of water helps preserve local rivers and watercourses, such as the Fraser and Brunette, which support diverse fish populations, including salmon and other essential aquatic species. Unfortunately, localized pollution from contaminants, habitat destruction, and foreshore clearing in surrounding areas have impacted water quality and fish production. These changes affect aquatic life and limit the capability of these watercourses to support thriving fish habitats.

The City of New Westminster remains committed to protecting its water resources through policies and programs that enhance water quality and encourage water conservation. Residents are encouraged to explore city initiatives to preserve watercourses and ensure a healthy, sustainable environment for local aquatic species.
