Climate Action Week

The New Westminster Public Library is excited to participate in BC’s Climate Action Week from Nov. 2 to 8, 2024, with a series of engaging events focused on climate change awareness and solutions. These free programs offer residents the chance to learn, discuss, and take action on climate issues.

Kicking off the week is "Climate Solutions in a Day" on Nov. 2, where local climate educators and city staff will guide participants through climate science and practical solutions for homes, communities, and advocacy. The event will include discussions with city councilors and climate action staff, ensuring attendees feel empowered to engage in meaningful change. Lunch is provided, and the event is open to teenagers, encouraging intergenerational dialogue.

Other notable programs include a mending workshop, a climate misinformation literacy workshop, and a family-friendly movie night featuring the film 2040, a hopeful vision of a sustainable future. The movie night promises a fun evening with popcorn and an opportunity to bring your own bowl.

Charity Poker Tournament

Starlight Casino will host a charity poker tournament on Oct. 24, featuring Mayor Patrick Johnstone, athletes, entertainers, and local leaders. The event celebrates the casino's first year of poker and will raise money for various charities, with participants playing to support their chosen causes. The tournament begins at 6:30 p.m., following a red carpet event at 5:30 p.m.
