The Royal City GoGos are hosting their highly anticipated Artisan Craft Sale on November 15 and 16, 2024. This popular New Westminster event will feature a wide range of local, handmade products, vintage collectibles, and thrift accessories—perfect for picking up early Christmas gifts. Known for its quality crafts and unique finds, the sale supports a great cause, with proceeds going to help African grandmothers and the children in their care.
The Royal City GoGos are a group of over 70 local women, aged 45 to 85, united in their mission to support grandmothers in Africa. Through various fundraising events, including the "For the Love of Grandmothers Fitness Challenge" and "Solidarity Cycle," the GoGos have made a meaningful impact. The annual craft sale is a community favorite, with 1,000 attendees. The group also plans spring events, ranging from fashion shows to wine tastings.
The Royal City GoGos are part of the Greater Van Gogos, a regional network of over 20 groups stretching from Powell River to Chilliwack.

The City of New Westminster is encouraging residents to help keep catch basins clear of leaves, debris, litter, and snow to prevent localized flooding. Catch basins are essential for draining rainwater from streets, and keeping them clear ensures they operate at full capacity, especially during heavy rainfall or snowfall. By adopting a catch basin, residents can take part in maintaining their local drainage system and preventing street flooding.
How It Works:
Adopting a catch basin is simple. Throughout the year, you'll be responsible for regularly clearing leaves, litter, and debris from the basin using basic tools like a broom, shovel, or rake. Key times to clean include after heavy rain, in the fall when leaves are abundant, after snowfalls in winter, and in spring when street debris builds up. After cleaning, you'll be able to report the last cleaning date through a provided link.
Safety Guidelines:
Your safety is a top priority. Please follow these guidelines while maintaining your catch basin:
Stay on the sidewalk or boulevard as much as possible and avoid stepping into traffic.
Wear bright clothing or a safety vest to stay visible to drivers and cyclists.
Use tools such as a broom, rake, or shovel to clear materials and always wear gloves.
Dispose of leaves in your green cart and litter in your garbage cart. Do not push debris into the catch basin.
Never attempt to lift or remove the catch basin grate. If you can't clear the debris, contact Engineering Operations.
Always supervise children.
Reporting Hazardous Materials or Issues:
If you come across hazardous materials such as needles or broken glass, or if a catch basin does not drain after clearing, report the issue to Engineering Operations at 604-526-4691 or via email at [email protected]..
