The New Westminster Hyacks are halfway through their 2024 football season with a 2-1 record. Despite a recent loss to Terry Fox Secondary, the team's upcoming schedule looks favorable, with key matchups against Lord Tweedsmuir and two unranked teams. Key players like quarterbacks Antonio Hageleit and Gavin Rai, running back Kah'ri Johnson, and wide receiver Benicio Hageleit have helped lead the team so far.
🪖 Historic Cannons Near City Hall to Be Restored, Removal Scheduled Soon

Cannons at City Hall
The historic cannons near the cenotaph at City Hall are scheduled for restoration, marking the first such effort in two decades. These cannons, which were retired from service in 1895, have been displayed in various locations around the city over the past century. Their last restoration took place between 2000 and 2004, after which they were placed at the cenotaph plaza.
For public safety, the cannons will be removed in late October or early November and stored securely until the restoration can begin. Preparation for the move is set to start the week of October 14. While there is no set timeline for the completion of the restoration, city staff are working closely with the Royal Westminster Regiment Historical Society to plan the restoration. Once a course of action is decided, it will be reviewed by City Council and Regimental leadership.
Restoration is a specialized and costly process, and only a few local experts are qualified to undertake it. As the restoration progresses, updates on the project's progress will be shared.
