👩‍🌾 Tipperary Park Market Seeks Volunteers: Join The Thursday Afternoon Crew

Spend your Thursdays in the beautiful surroundings of Tipperary Park while connecting with your community! We are seeking volunteers for our Thursday afternoon shifts, from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping set up and tear down the market, providing vendor support, assisting customers with directions, and engaging in many other activities that keep the market running smoothly.

Volunteering at the market is a fantastic way to:

  • Make new friends within the New Westminster community,

  • Earn valuable volunteer hours for high school graduation,

  • Enjoy access to fresh local produce and unique products,

  • Practice English language skills,

  • Spend time outdoors and reconnect with nature.

We recognize our volunteers in various ways throughout the season, including awarding a "Volunteer of the Month" and hosting an end-of-season Volunteer Appreciation Night. Some vendors even offer special discounts to thank our volunteers for their hard work.

We welcome volunteers of all physical abilities, but we need those who can lift at least 25 lbs.

Are you interested in joining? Volunteer HERE.

Submission Deadline October 18, 2024

The City of New Westminster is excited to announce a call for submissions for the 2025-2027 Poet Laureate position. Local writers, including poets, spoken word artists, and storytellers, are invited to apply for this prestigious role. The City strongly encourages applications from IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour) and other equity-denied literary artists. The Poet Laureate will serve as a literary ambassador, promoting the value of the written and spoken word throughout the city.

During their three-year term, the selected Poet Laureate will present original work at public events, engage with the community through creative initiatives, and develop a lasting legacy project that fosters appreciation for literary arts. Working closely with City staff, the Poet Laureate will shape an engagement plan that aligns with their artistic vision and community goals.

The position comes with an honorarium of $2,500 per year, as well as an annual budget of $1,000 to support engagement activities. Applicants must have a demonstrated connection to the community and a history of public presentations, readings, or publications. Submissions, including a letter of intent, biography, and 3-5 examples of past work, are due by Friday, October 18, 2024.

Interested applicants check out the submission form HERE.
