The Rainbow Chorus of New Westminster is inviting the community to join in a joyous celebration of the holiday season at its third annual Festive Singalong. This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, December 14th, at 1 p.m. in The Sanctuary on Sixth, welcoming everyone to lift their voices in song.
Participants can look forward to singing holiday classics such as Let it Snow, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Winter Wonderland. The singalong promises an engaging afternoon where attendees and choir members come together to enjoy the festive spirit.
Admission to the event is free, but donations are encouraged to support the Rainbow Chorus and its ongoing initiatives. Attendees are also asked to contribute socks for a drive supporting The Purpose Society, an organization that aids vulnerable individuals in the community.
The Rainbow Chorus is an inclusive, non-auditioned group that welcomes members of the LGBTQ2SI+ community, their allies, and anyone with a passion for singingβregardless of musical experience. True to its motto, Blending Voices, Changing Hearts, the choir aims to create a welcoming environment for all who love to sing.
The choir hosts performances twice yearly, including its holiday singalong and an event during Pride New Westminster. In addition, a special concert is planned in Abbotsford in February. New members can join in January or August, with more information available on the Rainbow Chorusβs Facebook page.
Donβt miss this chance to celebrate the season, give back to the community, and share in the warmth of music and togetherness.
π§βπ New Westminster Distributes Warming Kits Ahead of Winter

As colder temperatures approach, New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services is teaming up with Warming the Homeless to distribute warming kits to individuals experiencing homelessness in the city. This marks the second time fire crews have partnered with this grassroots initiative, with the kits also being utilized by the Crisis Response Team as part of the ongoing Crisis Response Pilot Project.
The warming kits, which will be stocked on fire trucks and carried by outreach teams throughout the winter, include essential cold-weather items such as gloves, toques, winter socks, ponchos, hand warmers, tea, and hot cocoa packs. Founders Randy Wong and Sahar Manochehri originally funded many of these items themselves, showcasing their dedication to aiding vulnerable populations.
Mayor Patrick Johnstone praised the effort, describing it as a βsmall but meaningful example of a community working together.β Assistant Fire Chief Isabella Li also highlighted the compassion behind the initiative, emphasizing the care Wong and Manochehri bring to the city.
This month marks the 10th anniversary of Warming the Homeless. On November 4th, Wong and Manochehri delivered 25 kits for men and 15 for women to be distributed. The duo emphasized their mission to provide comfort without discrimination, aiming to offer a sense of community and support to those receiving the kits.
While working towards becoming a registered non-profit charity, Warming the Homeless continues to accept donations through its website, WarmingtheHomeless.com. Their collaborative efforts with local services aim to provide immediate relief to individuals facing the challenges of homelessness, while also underscoring the need for long-term solutions.
